Treating Vaginal Dryness

How PREMARIN Vaginal Cream Works

PREMARIN Vaginal Cream is a proven treatment option that reverses the vaginal changes that cause dryness and discomfort during menopause, and can help maintain this reversal with continued use. In treating vaginal dryness, it works by delivering an individualized dose of a blend of estrogens directly to the tissues in and around your vagina.

PREMARIN Vaginal Cream is different from over-the-counter lubricants and moisturizers, such as Replens® or K-Y® Jelly. While these products may offer temporary relief from vaginal dryness, PREMARIN Vaginal Cream addresses vaginal discomfort at its source — actually treating the estrogen loss that causes this common menopausal symptom. So it does more than temporarily improve symptoms — it may actually restore your vagina's elasticity and lubrication with continued use.

When used as directed for treating vaginal dryness, PREMARIN Vaginal Cream can provide relief — not just right after you apply it.

Proven, Dependable Relief...When You Need It

PREMARIN Vaginal Cream is available in a variety of doses (0.5 g to 2.0 g), so your doctor or health care professional can tailor treatment to your individual needs.

The Gentle Measure® Applicator lets you measure out your prescribed dosage neatly and precisely. Plus, its rounded applicator is designed to deliver the soothing cream without further irritating sensitive tissues.

Unlike prescription vaginal tablets, PREMARIN Vaginal Cream can be applied directly to vaginal tissues — for relief wherever itching, burning, or dryness bother you most. And its formulation is designed to not be messy.

Change the Course of Vaginal Dryness as Soon as Possible

A clinical study has shown that women using PREMARIN Vaginal Cream may experience relief from vaginal atrophy — the cause of dryness, itching, and burning — within about 3 weeks.

It's important to remember that PREMARIN Vaginal Cream is not effective for treating other menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes. If you're experiencing hot flashes and night sweats, or are concerned about osteoporosis (bone loss), ask your health care professional about other treatments that are available for these conditions.

To find out if PREMARIN Vaginal Cream is right for you, ask your doctor or health care professional. He or she is your best source of information about staying healthy during menopause. Together, you can make decisions about what's most appropriate for you.

Applying PREMARIN Vaginal Cream

PREMARIN Vaginal Cream is a soothing therapy for treating vaginal dryness that you apply directly to your vagina with a rounded plastic applicator. The Gentle Measure Applicator is specifically designed for comfortable, easy use:

Step 1
  • Wash hands thoroughly
  • Insert the applicator plunger into the smooth end (the end without grooves) of the applicator barrel (applicator will be pre-assembled the first time you use it)
  • Remove cap from tube
  • Screw the tube onto the grooved end of the applicator

Step 2
  • Gently squeeze tube from the bottom until cream fills the applicator up to the measurement mark corresponding to the dose your doctor prescribed
  • Be careful to fill the applicator with cream only up to the level of your prescribed dose
  • Unscrew and remove the applicator from the tube

Step 3
  • Lie on back with knees drawn up
  • Gently insert the applicator deep into the vagina
  • Push the plunger in all the way to fully dispense the cream
  • Remove the applicator from the vagina

Using PREMARIN Vaginal Cream for External Dryness and Discomfort

Because of its soothing cream formulation, you can apply PREMARIN Vaginal Cream directly to the area of irritation. It offers treatment for dryness in both the vagina and the vulvar area (outer skin surrounding the vagina) — to soothe right where you feel the irritation, itching, and/or burning sensation. And PREMARIN Vaginal Cream is designed not to liquefy or leak.

Cleaning and Storing the Gentle Measure Applicator
